Unified Logistics Network charging based on actual weight and volumetric weight:
In logistics (including companies like Unified Logistics Network), shipping charges are usually based on whichever is greater between:
-
Actual Weight = the real weight measured on a weighing scale (in kilograms).
-
Volumetric Weight (or dimensional weight) = a weight based on the package’s volume (space it occupies) rather than its actual weight.
How Volumetric Weight is Calculated:
Usually, volumetric weight (in kg) =
(Length × Width × Height) in cm / 6000
(Different companies may use 4000, 4500,5000, or 6000 as the divisor depending on their policy.)
For example:
-
A box size: 50 cm × 40 cm × 30 cm
-
Volumetric weight = (50×40×30) / 6000 = 10 kg
If the box’s actual weight is 8 kg, but the volumetric weight is 12 kg, the courier will charge based on 12 kg.
"In all courier transactions, the chargeable weight will be determined by comparing the actual weight and the volumetric weight of the package—whichever is higher will be considered final for billing purposes."
The company's decision on the applicable weight calculation is final and binding."
Why do they do this?
Because light but bulky parcels (like pillows, shoes, or large empty containers) take up more space on trucks and planes, even if they don't weigh much.
